I woke up at 3:00 a.m. with a familiar weight on my chest. It wasn't a noise in the house, but the quiet roar of my own anxious thoughts. You know that hour. The world is asleep, but every worry you managed to outrun during daylight is sitting right there on the edge of your bed.
Fear has a way of shrinking our vision. It convinces us we are entirely alone, left to fix things we never had the power to break in the first place. We brace for impact. We forget who is in the room with us.
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."— Isaiah 41:10, KJV
God doesn't just demand we stop being afraid, as if fear is a switch we can simply flip. He gives us the reason we can finally let go. "For I am with thee." It is the sheer reality of His presence. He is right here. He is God.
Consider that diagnosis. The failing bank account. The fractured relationship you can't seem to mend. God looks right at the thing terrifying you and steps in front of it. He promises to strengthen you when your knees give out, and to help you when your answers run dry.
Held By His Righteous Right Hand
The right hand in Scripture means power. Authority. Salvation. When God says He will uphold you with it, He means you cannot fall out of His grip. Not even if you try. Your own grip on Him might slip when the pain gets loud, but His grip on you is iron. I need to remember that on the hard mornings. My safety doesn't depend on my grip.
Stop trying to be brave. Bravery is just acting like you aren't scared. Faith is admitting you are terrified and trusting Him anyway. Let the tension leave your shoulders. You don't have to figure it all out before noon. Just believe He is exactly who He says He is. You are held.
